Our verdict

A proper resort,
not just a boat: 8.4/10

Belterra opened in 2000 on 315 acres beside the Ohio River and has been run by Boyd Gaming since 2018. What sets it apart from most Midwest riverboat casinos is everything around the gaming floor: a Tom Fazio golf course, a full-service spa, a seasonal pool with cabanas, a 1,500-seat concert venue and one of the region's better steakhouses.

The casino itself is mid-sized and busy at weekends. Rooms are clean and well kept, though parts of the décor feel their age, and smoke drift is the most common complaint in guest reviews.

Score reflects our editorial opinion, not a guarantee. Facts checked against Boyd Gaming's published fact sheet and the resort website, October 6, 2026. Prices, hours and venues change, so confirm with the resort before you travel.

At a glance

  • Championship golf, spa and pool on one property
  • 19 Steak & Seafood is a genuine destination dinner
  • Free valet parking; guests praise cleanliness and staff
  • Boyd Rewards points work across Boyd properties nationwide
  • Smoke can reach hotel corridors and some rooms
  • Some rooms and public areas look dated
  • Rural location: under an hour from Cincinnati, little nearby nightlife

What the resort offers

The resort, area by area

Casino floor 8.0

Golf & spa 9.2

An 18-hole Tom Fazio layout winding past lakes and more than 2,200 trees, with a clubhouse, driving range and GPS carts. Beleza's Spa offers massages, facials and nail services; the pool with cabanas opens in summer.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this the official Belterra website?

No. This is an independent review. The official site is run by Boyd Gaming at belterracasino.boydgaming.com, and our buttons take you there.

Is Belterra a riverboat casino?

Yes. The gaming floor is on the Miss Belterra, a two-deck boat moored on the Ohio River and connected to the hotel, so it feels like a land-based casino once you're inside.

Does Belterra have a sportsbook?

Yes. Belterra has an on-site sportsbook; Indiana also allows mobile sports betting for people physically located in the state.

Is the casino smoke-free?

Smoking is permitted in parts of Indiana casinos, and smoke odour is the most frequent complaint in Belterra's guest reviews. If you're sensitive, ask for a room away from the casino connector when you book.

Can I play the golf course if I'm not staying?

Yes, the course takes public tee times, and hotel guests can bundle golf in stay packages. Check current rates with the golf shop.

Is there somewhere cheaper to stay nearby?

Boyd's fact sheet lists the Ogle Haus Inn, a 54-room Tudor-style inn eight miles away in Vevay with a heated pool and a complimentary shuttle to Belterra.
